Download PDFNYC Building Code Chapter 33 and the DOB rules don't just require safe practices — they require written proof. At major buildings, the Site Safety Manager or Coordinator must keep a site safety log recording every inspection, meeting, unsafe condition, correction and violation, with entries made no later than 7:00 a.m. the following day (BC §3310.8.4, 1 RCNY §3310-01). On smaller permitted jobs, a registered construction superintendent must personally perform daily site inspections and record the date, location and result of each one (BC §3301.13.13, 1 RCNY §3301-04).
Equipment carries its own paper trail. Scaffolds must be inspected daily before each use by a competent person, with a signed record kept on site (BC §3314.4.4). Sidewalk sheds need written inspection reports at installation and every six months thereafter (BC §3307.6.5). Crane and derrick operations require pre-shift and post-shift inspection records, pre-shift meeting entries and custody documentation maintained at the job site (1 RCNY §§3319-01, 3319-02). And standpipe systems must stay in a documented state of readiness, with every alarm activation, inspection and repair logged (BC §3303.8).
Missing or incomplete logs are among the easiest violations for a DOB inspector to write — and among the easiest to prevent. These templates give your field team a consistent format so nothing required goes unrecorded. They are provided as a free resource, are not official DOB forms, and are not a substitute for the code itself: always verify current requirements with the NYC DOB and FDNY.
Logs are only one piece of a compliant site. If you're staring down a site safety plan requirement, a superintendent designation, an open violation or a stalled permit, our consultants handle the full picture — filings, plans, coordination and sign-off.
