Permit Renewals
We track your DOB permit expiration dates and prepare the renewals in DOB NOW before a lapse stops the work.
When you need it
Before a DOB work permit expires, so there is no gap in your authorization to work. A permit issued in DOB NOW: Build expires on the earliest of three dates: one year after it was issued, the end of the contractor's general liability, workers' compensation or disability insurance on file, or the end of the license it depends on. When the insurance or license is renewed in time, DOB extends the permit automatically.
If a permit has already expired, the work has to stop until it is renewed. DOB renews expired permits when there has been activity on the application within two years of the expiration date. Beyond that, the job may have to be reinstated or filed again, so we start by reading the job's history.

When does a DOB permit expire?

How do I renew an expired permit?
In DOB NOW: Build, find the job's work permit and choose Renew Work Permit, then complete the details, pay the renewal fee and submit. DOB renews expired permits when there has been activity on the application within two years of the expiration date. Do not restart work until the renewed permit is issued.
